Gala Dinner for Lavena Schools Project

The very first ABCD Project was adopted by the Rotary Club of Templestowe (RCT), Melbourne, Australia. In late 2011 the Lavena Primary School was identified as a school with plenty of children in need and a head teacher and village chief that were determined to do something about it. Add the support from the Rotary Club of Taveuni Island, and a partnership with the Deakin University Global Citizenship program to the mix and you have the perfect recipe for an ideal ABCD Project!  And so it proved…

In 2012 RCT found sponsors for 44 children at $250 a time to go through school for a full year.  RCT and Deakin GCP students also raised enough money through donations and Rotary Foundation grants to build and fully equip a new pre-school.  A large slice of the fund-raising came from the highly successful Gala Dinner – so successful in fact that they are doing it again this year, with the object of ensuring the 44 sponsorships continue, and at the same time raising funds for a complete new solar power system for the primary school, the pre-school and the teachers quarters!

Sounds ambitious…?  You bet! And that’s why we need YOU to come along to support the Gala Dinner at 6.30pm on 24 May 2013, at the Monte Carlo Receptions, 5-9 Mitchell Street, East Doncaster. Heaps of entertainment to suit every taste, a silent auction featuring some brilliant artwork from the children of Lavena, plus many other great items and the opportunity to make a REAL difference to the lives of many children and their families.

You can book on-line at…
